On Friday April 17th, Early French Immersion students were able to meet their Francophone penpals from Tracadie-Sheila, NB for the very first time using SMART Bridgit software. It was quite rewarding to actually see and converse with our friends after corresponding via written letters all year. Even more exciting: In June, we will be meeting our friends in person (in Fredericton) on a "Friends Meeting Friends" field trip, which includes a visit to Science East.
As students, what did you enjoy most about the virtual exchange? What is different about communicating by virtual exchange, verses the handwritten letter? Do you feel more comfortable now to meet your penpal in person? Why or why not?

i feel more nervous talking into a mic and a web cam than talking in letters because on the smartboard the whole class can hear it.

I Really Like The Idea Of being able to see our penpals through skype because you can really interact and talk and get INSTANT responces instead of waiting a month just to see what their favorite color is!So like,being able to se what they look like and how they talk and stuff is the best cause you could lear interesting stuff about you penpal that you never knew!

It was fun meeting them even if it was only on the computer.In june were going to meet our penpals.

I dont like talking into a mic because the whole class can hear on the smart board. It can be hard to hear them if it has a bad connection.

i did my virtual exchange already and i thought it was a blast. M y penpal and i had a lot of fun i thought it was kul that i got to see my penpal almost in person!

i really liked the fact that we could interact with our buddys.there is a major difference between letters and the real thing.it was fun to meet my buddy.although, the camera was upside down,it was still cool

i think it's very cool and that it's way better then writing letters 'cause in letters you only read their writing but in the smartboard thing you get to see how your penpal looks like and haer their voices.And it's much quicker and easier since by mail you have to wait days,weeks and sometimes even months.so it's way better and cooler 'cause you're using new tech.It's even better then e-mail 'cause on e-mail you only get to read their words, yes I know it's fast but smartboard is still way better.kz27p

I most enjoyed talking and being able to see them on the smart board.When I wrote in letter,I never got to get her response right away and see her reation to what I wrote.I feel more comfortable meeting my penpal because then I get to have a conversation with her and get to know her better.

I think writing letters to our penpals is kind of boring because we never get to hear their voice and you don't get a response right away. I think it was cool to hear our penpals voice instead of seeing their writing. For me it was weird to go first and I enjoyed... not very much because my exchange was screwed up because of technical difficulties!!! Next time I'll learn not to go first. I think it will be easier to meet our penpals in person because we heard their voices.

I think that the virtual exchange was pretty cool because we actually got to talk to pretty much face-to-face.I also think that it will be a lot more comfortable because we we already saw them and we knbow what they like.

I think having a penpal is awsome ! but its better when you can interact with them like on the skype or briget programs. When u interact with them ur social skill will improve and u will be less nervis talking to people (boss,relatives,or even strangers)
It is better when you use technology because it also saves the planet, instead of putting fumes from a car or a bus.

i found the exchange really awkward,and we had to repeat ourselves alot.i couldn't hear monica very well.it will be great to talk to her in person,so i will hear her and have quicker and more natural responses.

1. it was really fun.

3.we both got to talk to each other.
4.everyone that did theres.already,looked like they were having so much fun.

You get to see your penpal in person.You you can get a instant response from your penpal. It was fun to see the other pen pals too.
I'm really exited about meeting my penpal online! I am eager to meet and communicate with her. I'll get more info faster and more efficiantly with her compared to letters. I'll probably be more confortabe talking to her versus the letters because I'm more a mover and a shaker rather than sitting down and writing some ol' letter. RK13P
I would like to meet my pen pal becausae then i would have met/made a new friend. Another thing is i didn't meet my pen pal though.It would be cool to meet my pen pal so I/he could help with the new language were each learning.

what i thinked about meeting my penpal online:
1.I think it was cool meeting our penpals online cause your not actually there but you can talk to them.

I enjoyed being able to hear their voice and to be able to see them virtually was weird but cool because it makes me feel more comfortable to meet them. Writing letters to them in my opinion is kind of better because, even if we don't see them face to computer and don't get an immediate response I just like it better (I guess I'm stuck in the past) We are the technological generation but it is cool to do something like our grandparents did. Yes, I feel more comfortable meeting my pen pal because I talked to her I was the only one that didn't get to see my pen pal.

its better than paper because you actually get to here thyem talking and see them like have a conversation but if you wrote its not a big conversation.its more comfortable to because well, i was alredy comfortable but now we know a little more about them so thats pretty cool.
